Vehnet launches AYDO; Free yard optimiser tool

Software specialists Vehnet have launched AYDO (Advanced Yard Design Optimiser), a powerful new tool, available to download and use entirely free of charge. Part of the Advanced Yard management software suite, AYDO is easy to use, yet highly functional, enabling users to accurately design and fully optimise individual yard layouts.

According to Steve Jones, Group Managing Director at Vehnet, intelligent layout design is key to effective yard optimisation. However, until now achieving optimal design has proved expensive and time consuming.

“The introduction of AYDO has changed all that,” he explains. “Now, users can simply locate their site with Google Maps, literally draw round the perimeter, buildings, major features and roadways. These co-ordinates are then imported into AYDO and appear as a to-scale canvas, allowing individual yards of any size or type to be designed according to key criteria.”

AYDO offers surprisingly extensive functionality for freeware; Using clever but user friendly tools, different yard scenarios can be created, alternatives explored and impact assessed, changes can be made quickly and cost-effectively. Designs can be shared with colleagues electronically and agreed before changes are physically implemented or capital expenditure committed.

AYDO is also delivered with icons for people, transportation modes, handling equipment, parking areas, gates, doors and buildings; it’s ‘bird’s eye view’ helps users identify hazards and increase security, and finished drawings can be created to presentation standard. A company logo can be added, for instance. Buildings and facilities can be labelled from a range of available fonts, and colour can be used to emphasise special features. The final version is easily exported to a .jpg format for publication, either on the web, as part of a presentation or for inclusion in business reports.
